The core activity of KRCT is the delivery of rehabilitation services. KRCT ensures a multidisciplinary integrated approach for treating health and psychosocial problems of torture and trauma victims and their family members
The goal of rehabilitation is to strengthen the
psychological, physical and social well-being of victims and their families and
to enable them to reintegrate in the society. The basic principle of the
rehabilitation activity at the KRCT is multidisciplinary teamwork. The
rehabilitation process follows predefined stages of general assessment,
psychological, medical and social assessment, including registration and
diagnosis, treatment, monitoring and follow-up.
People who have experienced traumatic events because of massive displacement, large-scale political violence, or other conflict-related trauma and the loss of close relatives or friends. This group includes ex-prisoners, massacre survivors, raped women, widows, orphans, returnees, and other victims of torture and other cruel, inhuman or degrading treatment or punishment, and their family members.
Aims to alleviate psychological suffering and improve the psychological and social functioning of clients. A specialized team composed of psychiatrists, psychologists and social workers delivers these services on daily basis:
– General consultation, support, counselling
– Individual psychotherapy
– Group psychotherapy
– Family therapy
– Expressive-creative therapy
– Cognitive behavioural therapy
– Prolonged exposure therapy
Physical Rehabilitation is conducted by a general practitioner. The medical treatment represents a consolidated service at the KRCT. All clients are given a general medical examination because an enormous number of our clients show somatic complaints as a consequence of physical torture.
– Identification of torture and trauma victims in need of social assistance
– Analyses of the torture and trauma victims’ social conditions and benefits, through establishing collaboration links with relevant social institutions and humanitarian organizations
– Referral of torture and trauma victims to relevant legal institutions
– Contact with relevant refugee organizations in foreign countries, to affect a gradual return of Kosovo Albanian war refugees.
– Publications and reports on the social situation of the traumatized victim
The documentation service collects data from our clients’ files daily in order to provide updated data. This activity facilitates investigation and consequently improves the therapeutic work of the rehabilitation staff. Furthermore, the database is to be used for clinical purposes, in order to facilitate effective clinical decision making; it will also improve the quality and cost-effectiveness of therapeutic services.
