KRCT at the International Forum on Women, Peace, and Security 2025
As part of the International Forum “Women, Peace and Security 2025,” the Kosovo Rehabilitation Centre for Torture Victims (KRCT) organized the panel “Towards Justice: The Strength and Stories of Survivors.” This meaningful gathering created a powerful space for amplifying the voices of survivors, breaking the silence surrounding conflict-related sexual violence, and honoring the strength of collective memory.
The event also marked the launch of the Ukrainian-language edition of the book “Beyond Pain, Towards Courage”—a moving collection of testimonies from survivors of wartime sexual violence in Kosovo. Developed in collaboration with UA Experts and in partnership with Pro Peace – Kosovo, this edition now serves as a bridge of solidarity with survivors in Ukraine, reinforcing the shared struggle for justice and recognition.
The panel brought together courageous voices from different countries and contexts. Among the speakers were Dr. Feride Rushiti, Executive Director of KRCT; Ramadan Nishori, survivor of conflict-related sexual violence in Kosovo; and Lyudmila Makey, activist and representative from Ukraine. They were joined by Dr. Christina Doctare, Nobel Peace Prize laureate and outspoken voice against the denial of war crimes, and Alysia Kovalenko, Ukrainian survivor and human rights activist—both of whom contributed to the panel with compelling messages and insights grounded in personal experience and global advocacy.
The discussion highlighted the courage it takes to speak out, the importance of listening with empathy, and the shared determination to advance justice for survivors—regardless of geography or background.
We are deeply grateful to all those who dare to speak and to those who listen with care. Pain may cross borders—but so do courage, solidarity, and the pursuit of justice.
