HISTORIC DECISION: DOUBLE PENSIONS FOR SURVIVORS OF SEXUAL VIOLENCE DURING THE WAR

The Court of Appeals has affirmed the first case, represented by KRCT, guaranteeing the provision of double pensions for survivors of sexual violence during the war in Kosovo. This decision establishes an important precedent and paves the way for many other cases, ensuring long-denied rights for survivors.

This is a significant moment in the ongoing efforts for justice and dignified support for survivors. Survivors will now have the opportunity to receive both types of pensions: one for being recognized as victims of sexual violence and the other for age or contributions. Since 2021, KRCT has been actively engaged in providing free legal aid to these individuals, representing 12 cases in court, where it has sought entitlement for survivors to receive double pensions.

We urge the relevant institutions to take immediate action to resolve this issue through an administrative act, ensuring that every survivor automatically receives double pensions, without prolonged legal battles.

While this decision represents a major victory for justice, there is still work ahead. We will continue to stand side by side with the survivors, demanding that their rights be fully recognized and respected.
