“DOCUMENTATION OF SEXUAL VIOLENCE CRIMES DURING THE WAR IN KOSOVO”

KRCT has launched, for the first time in Kosovo, the implementation of a project exclusively documenting crimes of sexual violence during the war in Kosovo. Since the end of the war, there has been a lack of a well-structured database that specifically documents these crimes. To address this gap, KRCT, with the support of the Swiss Embassy, initiated the implementation of the project “Enhance Transitional Justice Efforts in Kosovo through Documentation of Wartime Sexual Violence” in 2019. This project continued until April 2023 and is now supported by medica mondiale e.V. and BMZ.

This process aims to comprehensively document cases of sexual violence during the war in Kosovo and raise public awareness about this issue.
The project is implemented by KRCT in partnership with authorized non-governmental organizations: The Centre for the Promotion of Women’s Rights (CPWR), Medica Kosova, and Medica Gjakova.

Number of documented cases: 1300

Data collection was done by KRCT – 405 and partner organizations: Medica Kosova – 238, QPDG – 267 and Medica Gjakova – 390.
