Documenting crimes of sexual violence during the war in Kosovo

For the first time in Kosovo KRCT started the implementation of a project which exclusively documents crimes of sexual violence happened during the war in Kosovo. Since the end of the war, there has been a lack of a well-structured database that would specifically documents crimes of sexual violence, therefore KRCT with the support of the Swiss Embassy has launched the project: “Enhance Transitional Justice Efforts in Kosovo through Documentation of Wartime Sexual Violence.”

This project aims to comprehensively document cases of sexual violence during the war in Kosovo and raise public awareness on this issue.

The project is implemented by KRCT in partnership with licensed NGOs: The Centre for the Promotion of Women’s Rights (CPWR), Medica Kosova and Medica Gjakova.

Number of documented cases: 1080

Data collection was done by KRCT – 353 and partner organizations: Medica Kosova – 195, QPDG – 255 and Medica Gjakova – 277.
